Here is the link to the abstract of my research paper. Like most abstracts it it concise and to the point. I will present the paper at the RIT Undergraduate Research & Innovation Symposium on August 14, 2010
Since I am applying for a provisional patent, I cannot show you the final product and processes for at least a week after I have submitted the application.
BUT here’s what I can tell you:
This week I will begin working on finalizing the concept for the FEMA travel trailer alternatives. I will start by creating a standard floor plan that meets FEMA and DHS requirements. From there I will create two recommendations for FEMA trailer replacement shelters; one will have a low first-cost with higher ongoing costs, the other will be just the opposite.
Then some crucial planning takes place, as the assembly process for rehabbing these containers will be finalized.
From there, I can begin to create various stacking configurations. If all goes as planned, I can wrap-up the housing portion of this project this week and then shift my efforts on creating a modular solution for businesses, school, and emergency services.
Last week was very productive, but I put in so much overtime that I was useless by Friday. This week I will try to limit myself to no more than 10 hours of work per day and take a 15 minute break every two hours.
Since I have completed most of the material selection and cost planning for this project, I expect that this week will be even more productive than last week (and have more blog post as well).
Here is my first 3D model of the container with a tensile fabric roof. It quite literally gave me a headache, as SolidWorks crashed several times and I just plain couldn’t get it to work properly. After trying about 5 different techniques and 5 hours I got the model to work properly. (The final model only took 30 minutes to create)
I am very pleased with the outcome so far, if you look at the last image in gallery, it is actually a sketch I started on yesterday and finished today before working on the 3D computer model. I was surprised that the side view on the computer and the one I drew earlier came out nearly the same.
Previously I showcased a rendering of a container with a green roof, that concept will be revised as I realized it would be difficult to execute in real life.Expect images of that concept later on this week. I will now begin figuring out where my windows and doors will go, and update all the renderings
